Hamburg Composts: Growing a Better Future

The Town of Hamburg and Farmer Pirates Compost have teamed up to offer Hamburg residents a subsidized composting drop off program. Read below to learn more about this pilot program.

How It started

From September 2023 through October 2024, over 120 households in Hamburg participated in a pilot composting program. In total, over 18,000 lbs of food scraps were collected at the Town Hall drop off spot and composted! While the pilot has come to an end, the Town secured funding to not only keep going but expand the program and do so with a subsidized program!

How It’s going

Beginning November 1, 2024 the Town of Hamburg launched a Subsidized Composting Drop Off Program with Farmer Pirates Compost! For only $3 a month, residents are able to use the drop off composting program AND receive two 1 cubic foot bags of compost per household in the spring! Farmer Pirates manages your payments quarterly, and the Town will share the cost with you. New to the subsidized program, the Town opened a second drop off location. When you sign up for this program, you will choose the site that is best for you.
