Part Time Admin and Food Scrap Collection Driver

Job Description:
This is a mulit-faceted position that best suits someone who enjoys administrative work such as managing social media, event planning, engaging with customers both through email and in person, but also enjoys variety in their work and mixing things up with boots on the ground tasks such as residential food scrap collections driver, helping out at the compost site during sales season, managing delivery & pickup of commercial totes and other misc and similar tasks.
This is also a position that has the potential to become more focused and streamlined over time, ideally honing in on becoming an integral part of the administrative team, taking on a more defined role with gained experience.

Initially we are looking for a new team member to start Mid-March to work approximately 10-15 hours per week, approx 3 days per week to work in an administrative role AND to work as a driver for one bi-weekly residential food scrap collection route. There will also be a small amount of tote management work that entails dropping off, picking up and cleaning totes as requested by commercial clients.
Beginning at the end of April/early June the person in this position will begin training to take over a variety of administrative duties while one of the worker owners heads out on maternity leave. By mid June hours will be increasing to 25-30 per week.

It is our goal to have this position fully engaged and engrossed in Farmer Pirates operations so that by October they can begin taking on a larger role within the: business in an area they are most passionate about and comfortable with. We expect that hours worked will remain steady at 25-30 hours per week.

More Details:
Approximately 10 hrs per week will be spent responding to customer emails, managing our current social media accounts and getting to know the ins and outs of our daily operations. Currently all admin work is done from home, with collaborative work sessions once per week at a local cafe/coffee shop. We hope to have an onsite office space by the middle of 2025.

Approximately 4-5 hrs biweekly on Tuesdays will be spent as a driver on one residential food scrap collection route. Driver will make frequent stops, getting in and out of the truck often to empty food scraps manually. We work in all types of weather including rain, snow, high heat etc. Routes are completed in a midsized pickup truck and navigated using a specialized app to provide route and pickup information using a company-provided smartphone. All routes are to begin no earlier than 7am and no later than 9am.
Tote management tasks and duties are on an as needed basis and will be assigned by the Commercial Service manager. These could include dropping off totes to new commercial customers, picking up totes from cancelling customers, washing/ replacing damaged totes, as well as other misc tasks such as inventory etc.

From April - June during compost sales season, this position will also entail 1 hr per week to help fill 25- 50 small compost bags and potentially working some Saturdays to assist with sales and pickups of compost orders.

Everyone will be trained to complete all routes to be available for fill in when necessary.
While owning your own vehicle is not required, you will be expected to be able to have transportation to get to our composting site, or meet out for group work sessions as needed.

Food Scrap Collection Driver Job Position Details:​

Prepare, inspect and operate a mid-sized truck

Job Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent
-
Valid driver’s license
-
At least 5 years driving experience

Familiarity with driving a pickup truck

Good driving record with no traffic violations (we will request a driving abstract from the DMV)

Ability to drive in a variety of weather and traffic conditions
